Payroll Manager will:
manage the daily operations of the payroll department; manage the pay cycles and provide direction to ensure employee salaries and withholdings are accurate and properly recorded in the general ledger; resolve day-to-day issues as they arise; provide immediate supervision to corporate staff and provide guidance to remote sites' Payroll Assistants in conjunction with Human Resources; and prepare audits and participate in year-end activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide direction to the Payroll staff to ensure the bi-weekly/monthly payrolls are processed in a timely and accurate fashion. Identify control weaknesses and implement changes as needed. Resolve payroll issues as they arise keeping the Manager Corporate Payroll informed
Oversee distribution of paychecks and balance payroll runs.
Manage the coordination of payroll functions for assigned sites.
Ensure accurate/complete employee labor and payroll records/reports in accordance with company policy and labor regulations.
Resolve employee concerns regarding wage payments and associated taxation or other issues.
Maintain organization specific user guides.
Provide expertise and support to the assigned sites.
Monitor interaction between the payroll team and their internal customers.
Assist with the implementation of processes to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, reduce costs, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain state-of-the-art practices.
Provide input to the development of short and long range operating objectives, organizational structure and staffing requirements. Assist in the development of a departmental plan for backup of key personnel.
Oversee the recording of wage and salary expense to the general ledger, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of all entries.
Collaborate with management, IT and ADP to define, test and implement system modifications, new payroll products and/or enhancements to existing payroll systems needed to meet the changing needs of the company.
Generate ad hoc reporting requested by senior management.
Perform audits to ensure compliance with Sarbanes/Oxley.
Participate in the selection of qualified departmental personnel. Recommend, review and approve personnel actions, including hiring, promotions and raises. Partner with Human Resources in the handling of disciplinary issues. Identify training and development needs of direct reports. Monitor performance of direct reports. Provide regular coaching and counseling. Prepare and deliver salary and performance reviews.
Assist the Corporate Payroll Manager in conducting training sessions for external department and remote site supervisors and managers.
Prepare biweekly and monthly-deferred compensation reporting files and update 100% individual schedules as necessary.
Prepare annual budget for assigned sites.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance or related discipline, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
4 to 6 year's payroll managerial experience.
Experience with multi site and multi company payrolls preferred.
3 years supervisory experience
Solid working knowledge of Payroll (preferably ADP) automated time keeping systems and general ledger experience
Microsoft Excel, Word, report writing
Strong organizational skills
